A good night’s sleep is fundamental to happy camping. Your search for a tent trailer was likely prompted by another bad night’s sleep on a blow-up mattress on the ground. Buyer beware: upgrading to a camping trailer doesn’t automatically guarantee a better mattress. Many small trailers offer only 2” or at most 4” full size mattresses. Many will barely mention mattress size or thickness in their long list of technical specifications.
Good camping trailer design should begin with the mattress. The Lemur Camper was designed around a 6” RV short queen mattress for parents and 4” RV short queen mattress for the kids. The two beds are knee high off the ground for easy access and adjacent to each other, putting children in close proximity to parents for nighttime emergencies.
No climbing up or down from a rooftop tent or in and out of a trailer to access an adjacent tent where the children are sleeping. The separate beds and rooms give parents and children privacy and the parent’s side has two configurations for lazing against a headrest and comfortable seating on a couch. Separate sleeping and living areas mean no annoying rearranging the furniture to reconfigure for sleeping or seating.
